What is a Text & Word Counter?

A text and word counter analyzes written content to provide statistics like word count, character count, sentence count, and more. Writers, students, and content creators use it to meet length requirements, estimate reading time, and identify overused words. Our tool goes beyond basic counting with frequency analysis, reading/speaking time estimates, and supports all languages including CJK scripts — all running in real time directly in your browser.

How to Use the Text & Word Counter

  1. Type or paste your text into the input area
  2. View real-time statistics: words, characters, sentences, paragraphs, and lines
  3. Check estimated reading time (200 wpm) and speaking time (130 wpm)
  4. Review the top 10 most frequently used words
  5. Examine character frequency distribution
  6. Click Clear to reset and start with new text

Frequently Asked Questions

How are words counted?

Words are counted by splitting text on whitespace (spaces, tabs, newlines). Each contiguous sequence of non-whitespace characters is counted as one word. This works for English, Korean, Japanese, and other languages.

How is reading time calculated?

Reading time is estimated at 200 words per minute, which is the average adult reading speed. Speaking time uses 130 words per minute, the average conversational speaking pace.

Does it support non-Latin scripts?

Yes! The counter works with all Unicode scripts including Korean (Hangul), Japanese (Hiragana, Katakana, Kanji), Chinese (CJK), Arabic, Devanagari, and more.

Is my text stored or sent anywhere?

No. All analysis happens entirely in your browser. Your text never leaves your device — no data is sent to any server, and nothing is stored.

What does the character frequency show?

The character frequency section shows the top 20 most-used characters (excluding spaces) with their occurrence count and percentage of total characters. This helps identify letter distribution patterns in your text.
