What is a Typing Speed Test?
A typing speed test measures how fast and accurately you can type by presenting a passage of text and tracking your keystrokes in real time. Speed is measured in WPM (words per minute, where a word equals 5 characters) and CPM (characters per minute). Accuracy tracks the percentage of correct keystrokes. Our test features multiple text passages, character-by-character visual feedback, and detailed results.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is WPM calculated?
WPM is calculated as (correct characters / 5) / (time in minutes). A standard word is defined as 5 characters, which is the international standard for typing speed measurement.
What is a good typing speed?
Average typing speed is 40-50 WPM. Professional typists reach 65-75 WPM. Touch typists often achieve 80+ WPM. Speed typing competitors can exceed 150 WPM. Anything above 60 WPM is considered proficient for most jobs.
Does accuracy affect the score?
Yes! Only correctly typed characters count toward your WPM score. Errors are tracked separately. High accuracy (98%+) is more important than raw speed in most professional contexts.
Can I practice with different texts?
Yes! Click New Text to get a different passage. Multiple text samples are available covering various topics and difficulty levels.
Does the timer start automatically?
Yes, the timer starts as soon as you press the first key. There's no separate start button — just begin typing.
